This scarf is one of my favourites to make but is truly a labour of love.

It has 5 bands of stitch at each end, starting with a short band across a corner and getting longer as I move up the scarf and I’ve made this one extra wide so it can also be worn as a shawl.

Each band is comprised of seven rows of stitch and the stitches are tiny and carefully placed to create a break in the dye from one row to the next.

The stitching takes more than a day to sew and then all the threads have to be meticulously and tightly pulled up to create the resist and then dipped in the indigo 10 times, which takes another three hours.

I love the work, I get lost in it and the organic patterns the stitching creates are wonderful.

It is on fine Baptiste cotton lawn which takes the indigo really well and allows for the creation of very small, fine mokume stitching.
