Vintage kasuri scarf - hashes and joined lozenges
I love finding two beautiful indigo dyed kasuri fabrics and pairing them to make unique and stunning pieces and this one is a particular favourite.
This scarf has been made by attaching a beautiful piece of vintage woven hashed kasuri fabric to another stunning piece of Kasuri with lozenges connected by wavy lines Both pieces all come from deconstructed cotton kimono I was lucky enough to buy at the atelier of renowned Japanese hand-quilter, Shizuko Kuroha.
These were two of the nicest pieces I got from her and are very good examples of kasuri and super soft, highest quality cotton too.
The Kasuri weaving of the original fabrics is technically complex as the patterns are determined in advance and the skeins of threads space dyed for both warp and weft. The threads would have been dipped 30 times in Japanese indigo.
This is a beautiful, one of a kind scarf that would make a perfect gift for either a man or a woman.
There are a few small mends on the lozenges piece of Kasuri that I feel make it extra special, see pics.
