Whip stitch cotton scarf - wraparound style

Whip stitch cotton scarf - wraparound style
Dyed with indigo on soft Japanese cotton this scarf is lovely to wear.
This is a shorter, wrap around scarf with more Indigo blue and a sparser pattern.
The fabric is precisely pleated by hand sewing at marked points across the fabric at two inch intervals down both ends to form a tight and neatly folded length of material.
The edges are overstitched (known as “Whip stitch”) at intervals and with stitches of different sizes and over shorter and longer runs.
It is then dipped 10 times in Japanese indigo before being unpicked to reveal the pattern in white, in sharp contrast to the strong blue of the indigo.
I only make a few of these scarves each year as they take such a long time to create. Every one is unique as I deliberately don’t repeat the patterning and the indigo also finds its own path through the fabric.
