Whipstitch shibori - long scarf

Whipstitch shibori - long scarf
Dyed with indigo on soft Japanese cotton this scarf is lovely to wear.
It would be a great present for the man in your life but, to be honest, anyone could wear it!
The fabric is precisely pleated by hand sewing at marked points across the fabric at two inch intervals down both ends to form a tight and neatly folded length of material.
The edges are then overstitched (known as “Whip stitch”) at intervals and with stitches of different sizes and over shorter and longer runs. Some overlap and some don’t leaving gaps in the pattern.
It takes many hours to stitch!
It is then dipped 10 times in Japanese indigo before being unpicked to reveal the pattern in white, in sharp contrast to the strong blue of the indigo.
This a long version of this scarf.
