Tesuji "striped' rope core stitched and bound shibori scarf

Tesuji "striped' rope core stitched and bound shibori scarf
This striped shibori scarf was made in Japan in 2024 and 2025 on my trips to Bryan Whitehead’s silk farmhouse. I take a group of students each year to learn Shibori, Katazome stencilling and indigo dyeing).
This was a Homework piece involving many rows of hand stitched spaced out running stitch down the length of the scarf.
The pieces then had to be bound tightly to a thick rope core. “Bandages were applied to block out some parts of the stitching.
It’s had 10 dips in Bryan’s Japanese indigo vats and a good bashing in the river afterwards to remove the loose indigo.
Then…
The whole binding and bandaging process gets repeated on the other side and dyed again.
I’ve joined the two pieces I made in consecutive years with a hand sewn French seam to make a super long one-off scarf,
The scarf is a super soft Japanese cotton and feels really nice on your skin,
