Itajime shibori silk scarf - Multi-coloured - pop scarf

Itajime shibori silk scarf - Multi-coloured - pop scarf

£40.00

I love the many colours of this scarf. It was made at the end of a session, when I’ve mixed dozens of colours and I like to go a bit mad and put a bit of everything in there! This one has so many colours but still works!

Itajime shibori involves folding and clamping to create kaleidoscopic patterns but I would rather inject the silk dyes directly into the folded silk parcels, distributing the dyes in interesting and colourful ways.

The parcels themselves are made by concertina folding and pressing the silk into equilateral triangles. The process can be quite fiddly along the length of a long silk scarf and requires a certain Zen temperament!

Having been folded, the parcels are then injected with brightly coloured Dupont silk dyes and steamed in silver foil to fix the colour.

The best part of creating these silk scarves is opening them up at the end as you never know exactly what pattern you will get. It feels like opening presents!

Colourway: Grey, cerise, light pink, turquoise, soft green, yellow, purple and burnt orange
