MADE TO ORDER Madder dyed orange close striped Shibori lampshade - Arashi Storm۝ pattern - handmade lampshade - hand dyed orange linen

This light orange and white Shibori striped lampshade is part of the Storm۝ collection recently launched at MADE London by Romor Designs.

It is handmade using pure white Irish linen sourced from independent fabric shops in London that has been pole bound and pleated using the Shibori technique known as Arashi and then dyed using madder.

As with all my handmade fabrics, this is a one of a kind piece, no-one else will have one that is exactly the same.

* Please note: Due to the handmade nature of this item the exact pattern you receive will be similar to but not exactly the same as the one you see featured.

The fine stripes are achieved by ensuring the cloth is wrapped around the pole very tightly to achieve many folds. The fabric was dyed for an hour in the madder to achieve this light orange colour.

Perfect in the lounge, bedroom or anywhere else you need a beautiful handmade lamp to illuminate your home.

Shibori is a slow craft and all my pieces require a number of processes such as stitching, binding or clamping, as well as dyeing using indigo and other natural dyes before being assembled into a lovely lampshade.

The frame is made from top quality heavy gauge wire.

The lampshade panel been tested in the Lighting Association Laboratories and has passed the glow wire test which is The British Standard for Luminaries. The fabrics used become fire resistant upon adhesion to the panels.

The lampshade will fit the standard bayonet cap (BC) lamp holder for a lamp base or ceiling pendant. This is the most common type of lamp fitting in the UK today. It can also be used with Edison Screw (E27) lamp holders, most common in Europe.

The use of low energy bulbs is recommended. They use less energy and are cool to the touch, avoiding the problem of scorching shades and ceilings.

If you would like to view the actual fabric I will use for your shade, please contact me prior to buying and I will happily send a picture of the fabric I have in stock so you can make sure you are happy with it.

Because I sometimes have to create your fabric from scratch this can take up to 10 days for me to process a custom order. This is because natural dyes need to be mordanted with alum before dyeing and must dry out for a week before going into the dye vat. If you would like a shade delivered for a special occasion, please check with me before you commit to buy to ensure that I can ship in time.
