Romor Designs Kaleidoscope shibori silk scarves banner.jpg

Make a colourful shibori silk scarf.

Your tutor will talk to you about Itajime and show you examples of his own work and talk about his trips to Japan in search of vintage silks.

The class will last 2.5 hours, including half an hour for dyeing your scarf.

This is a gentle introduction into Shibori and is suitable for complete beginners. It would make a nice gift and is suitable for anyone who wants an introduction to a shibori workshop in London.

What will I learn?

In this class you will learn the art of Kikko folding a silk scarf to create a parcel for dyeing. You will then use a selection of colourful silk dyes to inject into the scarf to create kaleidoscopic patterns and then steam your scarf to fix the colours.

Content:

– How to create the folding technique known as "Kikko" – equilateral triangles
– Basic colour theory - how to blend colours
– What colours work best together - rules of adjacency
– How to apply silk dyes using a pipette
– Please note: the last half hour of the class will be steaming the silk scarf to fix the colours
